History

"What started in 2010 as a collaboration of good people, has evolved in to a collaboration of great companies."

Boston Real Estate Collaborative (BREC) was founded in 2010 by Brent Berc, Will Avanessian and Patrick Haydon on the premise that a more collaborative development process, between owner, developer, architect and builder, would result in smarter planning, a more efficient design and construction process and ultimately better projects. Using this approach and marrying the partner’s expertise under one roof, BREC has built a track record of success that has earned it a reputation as one of Boston’s premier, local development companies. In 2012, with the development company finding its stride but lacking a property management solution that fit the company’s needs, Will and Brent made strategic hires to bring property management in-house. In 2020, BREC began the re-branding of its property management company under the name Thatch, with the mission of making rental housing simple, flexible and functional. The story is being written as we speak. BREC and its affiliates own and operate hundreds of units in the Boston-area, including units dedicated to affordable, market-rate and furnished housing. What started in 2010 as a collaboration of good people, has evolved into a collaboration of great companies.
